MOTs

Every vehicle over three years old needs a valid MOT certificate to be legally driven or taxed on the road. The test checks that your vehicle meets minimum safety and environmental standards set by the DVSA. Without a valid MOT, your car isn’t road-legal. Driving without one can result in fines, penalty points, and insurance becoming invalid.

If your MOT has expired, you can only drive the vehicle to a pre-booked MOT test or to a garage for repairs related to a failed MOT. It’s your responsibility as the owner to make sure the certificate is kept up to date.

We recommend checking your MOT expiry date in advance and booking early to avoid the last-minute rush. If your MOT expires and the car needs work, you won’t be able to drive it until it’s repaired and retested, so it’s always best to plan ahead and keep the test date up to date. You can check your MOT history and due date at gov.uk/check-mot-history.

While an MOT isn’t the same as a service, we can carry out both together to save you time and make sure your vehicle’s in good running order before the test.
