Tyres & Wheels
Tyres are the only part of a vehicle that make contact with the road, so their condition, tread pattern, and pressure have a direct effect on braking distance, handling, and fuel economy. Even a small loss in tread depth or uneven wear can make a big difference to grip and stopping performance, especially in wet or cold conditions.
We supply, fit, and balance tyres for all makes and models, from small cars to performance and commercial vehicles. We also offer wheel balancing and alignment checks to make sure your tyres wear evenly and your vehicle drives as it should.
Tyre Types and Tread Design
Not all tyres perform the same way. Summer tyres are made from a harder rubber compound and have shallower tread blocks that provide better stability and grip in warm, dry conditions. Winter tyres, on the other hand, use a softer compound that stays flexible in colder temperatures and have deeper tread patterns with more sipes, small grooves that bite into snow, ice, and standing water for extra traction.
For drivers who prefer one set all year, all-season tyres combine both designs. They perform well across changing UK weather but can’t quite match the performance of summer or winter tyres in their ideal conditions.
The minimum legal tread depth in the UK is 1.6mm, but we recommend changing tyres around 3mm for summer and 4mm for winter, as braking distances increase significantly below these levels.
Wheel Alignment and Balancing
Misaligned wheels can cause uneven tyre wear, pulling to one side, and reduced fuel economy. We carry out alignment (also called tracking) using accurate equipment to restore correct angles and ensure the tyres meet the road evenly.
Wheel balancing prevents vibration at speed by evenly distributing the wheel and tyre weight, an important step after fitting new tyres.
Tyre Care & Maintenance
Tyres last longer and perform better when they’re properly looked after.
Checking pressures, tread depth, and condition regularly can make a big difference to how a vehicle drives and how safely it stops.
Under-inflated tyres wear faster on the edges and raise fuel use, while over-inflated ones wear through the centre and can reduce grip. Keeping pressures set to the vehicle manufacturer’s figures, not just what “looks right”, helps to avoid both.
You should also keep an eye out for cracks, bulges, or cuts in the sidewall, especially on vehicles that sit unused for long periods. Even small damage can weaken the structure and cause blow-outs under load.
